Protein porridge is a near daily occurrence in my house, yet I haven’t blogged a recipe for one, I think it is time to rectify that! My morning bowl of oats usually comprises of oats, non-dairy milk, superfood powder, protein powder and fruit. The bowl is my canvas and these are my paints. The only thing that limits the flavour combinations is your imagination, go sweet or savoury, light or indulgent the oats take on flavour wonderfully and allow you to create what ever you like. Like this Poached Egg & Maple Prosciutto Porridge which whilst unconventional is absolutely lovely!
The healthy porridge recipe I am sharing with you today however is my go-to recipe, the bowl I have when I am either in a great mood and I want to maintain it or when I am down and need a pick me up. Call it a super bowl if you will. It is rich, indulgent and second to none, it is chocolate porridge.
Chocolate protein porridge is just too wonderful for words to describe, no other bowl will ever be my favourite. It doesn’t look the most attractive because it doesn’t have the varied and vibrant colours of fresh berries, but not everything you eat has to look fantastic (although it bloody helps when you are a blogger). I hope you go as mad for this bowl of oats as I do, have a great week guys!
Chocolate Porridge Recipe
- ½ cup of oats
- ½ cup of almond milk
- 1 tbsp. of chocolate protein powder
- 1 tbsp. of desiccated coconut
- 1 tbsp. of peanut butter
- 1 tbsp. of chia seeds
- 1 tsp. of cacao
- ⅓ tsp. of cinnamon
- 2 squares of dark chocolate
- 1 tsp. of coconut oil (optional)
- 1 tsp. of maca, lucuma or baobab (optional)
- Put everything in a saucepan and cook on a low-medium heat for 5 minutes.
- Alternatively you can stir through the superfoods when the porridge is ready as some do change flavour when cooked.
Chocolate flavoured plant based proteins do exist for all my vegan readers out there but if you can't get your hands on one just pick your favourite plant based protein powder and add an extra 1 tsp. of cacao.
