What // Health, Food, Fitness, Nutrition & Wellbeing blog
Where // Henley-on-Thames, UK
When // 2014 – Present
Why // Passion
I am not // Vegan, Raw, Paleo, Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Sugar-Free
I am // Refined Sugar-Free (I still eat naturally occurring sugars e.g. fructose) but I limit my intake as much as I can.
What I avoid // High GI carbohydrate, all heavily processed foods & artificial; additives, preservatives & flavourings.
Why // I firmly believe that not one existing diet is “healthy”. Not a single one! To achieve the healthiest nutritional regime I can, I have taken the best bits from each. I do not put ANYTHING in my body that I deem to be unhealthy, other than the occasional alcoholic drink. That is my filter, if it does not benefit me, I do not consume it.
Since 2012, I have enjoyed a healthy and very active lifestyle, it is not something that happened over night but rather a gradual progression as a result of an unfortunate injury.
In 2012 I somehow managed to dislocate both my shoulders playing rugby for the 1st XV Squad at school. I required surgery on both shoulders and due to the severity of the injury I was told I could no longer play any contact sports for the rest of my life. I was in a sling for the next 8 months. During this time my body withered away as a result of not being able to do any exercise. It got to a point where I didn’t like the way I looked despite still being relatively healthy and otherwise very happy. At that point I decided to not let this dictate who I become.
I started reading articles, fitness magazines and healthy recipes, anything I could get my hands on. Over time I improved my fitness programme and nutritional regime. After a little over a year I managed to get myself into pretty good shape but I sorely missed the sport that had previously taken up such a dominant portion of my life. So I started playing touch rugby because of its similarities and transferable skills. A year later I was playing for England.
Healthyjon is about optimising health in every capacity and trying new things along the way. When it comes to my nutritional regime and fitness I believe that if you eat well, train hard, acquire as much knowledge as possible and implement what you learn, the results will come. This is the message that I am trying to spread. It does not matter about your fitness level, your talent, how much you can lift or how fast you can run. It is about the amount of effort that you put in! Hard work beats talent every day of the week!
The second message I am trying to spread is that so many people are dependent upon diets and personal trainers to improve their bodies for them. But all this knowledge is readily available to you, all you have to do is take the time to educate yourself. No one can give you a great physique, you have to go out and earn it. That means sending hours reading as well as lifting.
By providing you with nutrition & fitness tips, workouts and healthy recipes, I am hoping that together we can become better & healthier versions of current selves. Please note I am not a qualified dietitian or personal trainer. I am just a healthy guy who does his research and makes some delicious meals. Even if I say so myself.
Somewhere down the line, eating healthily got itself a bad reputation. Maybe it was at the hand of the knuckle heads in the gym spreading bro secrets and obsessing over macros. Perhaps it was all the false marketing that recently came skipping down the road hand in hand with the wellness trend. Either way, I started this health & fitness blog to put an end to the nonsense. I want to provide my readers with a wonderful synergy of sound nutritional advice coming from the fitness community and delicious yet healthy recipes coming from the wellness community. By amalgamating the best parts from these two circles we are able to produce some delicious recipes that not even the strictest athlete could refuse.
So whether you are a yogi, smoothie bowl lover or fitness fanatic there is something here for you. The path to a better body starts in the kitchen and we all have a love of good food in common. Please have a read for a little foody inspiration. I have plenty of healthy recipes that I’m sure will take your fancy.
To get you started, here are some of my favourite healthy recipes. Enjoy reading & stay healthy.
