Warning, this blog post contains one delicious turmeric latte recipe and one quintessentially Healthy Jon rant.
Let me start by saying that I have been eating 1/4 tsp. of turmeric with black pepper in my morning omelette everyday for the last 5 or 6 years. Earlier this year turmeric started receiving a lot of press coverage, now it is being touted as the superfood of 2017.
Turmeric is a wonderful anti-inflammatory and consuming it with black pepper increases its bioavailability (meaning more of the nutrients and goodness gets absorbed and utilised by your body).
Now given that I have been aware of these facts for 5 or 6 years, as you would expect I have relayed this information to my family on numerous occasions. However much to my disappointment they still refuse to take most of my nutritional advice. Recently my parents overheard some PhD on the radio merely stating these same facts and not in as much detail I might add. After hearing that we now have 4 different jars of turmeric in the house and I caught my mother making herself a fairly shoddy looking turmeric latte a few weeks ago. Now that infuriated me and actually leads me quite nicely onto a similar topic, one of much controversy in the health and fitness industry.
Many influencers and bloggers that aren’t qualified PT’s or nutritionists have been on the receiving end of a lot of abuse (mainly from other influencers who are). They say that you need a qualification to be giving certain advice. There is obviously truth to what they say, that said many of the worlds greatest discoveries were made by people not with a qualification but a passion in a certain field. Rolls Royce manufacturers of the worlds most prestigious engines first started life in a shed. So the fact that I am not a qualified PT is never going to stop me from giving training advice, truth be told I know more about training than most PT’s I have encountered. Of course this is no longer true given where I work, one of the finest luxury health clubs in Europe.
Back to the turmeric, combining it with black pepper is a little trick not many people know about. So when Love Raw brought out a product combining the two I was very intrigued. It would certainly save me time when cooking. It also contains maca, ginger, cardamom & cinnamon so it works wonderfully in all manner of dinner recipes such as; stir fry’s, curries etc. But I have used it to make well porridge and this wonderful Turmeric Latte Recipe aka Golden Milk.
