Perfect Christmas presents for any health or fitness fanatic. What To Buy A Health Freak.
Everyone has always told me that I am impossible to shop for. From my point of view I am the easiest person to shop for on the entire planet, just give me a damn protein bar and I’ll be yours forever! On a serious note though, if you have a health enthusiast, foodie or gym junkie for a boyfriend, girlfriend, son, brother, sister, mother or any other possible kind of relation and you are still shopping for them in a department store, cloths store or are just generally roaming the town centre looking for inspiration, you’re in the wrong f*****g place!
Here are some of the things that I as a self-proclaimed health enthusiast, foodie & gym junkie would love to be given. I hope you find this list inspiring and if any of my lovely readers feel they need to say thank you for the wonderful suggestions feel free to buy me any one of the following.
Health enthusiasts and Foodies
Health snack subscription box such as; Life box, Saviour box, Healthy Nibbles, Tribe etc… These are a great gift because they are a gift that keeps on giving. Every month you receive a box full to the brim with healthy goodies from companies that you have hopefully never tried before.
Cookbooks – Deliciously Ella, Hemsley + Hemsley, Get The Glow, My New Roots, Naturally Sassy etc…
Waffle iron – Because well, who doesn’t love waffles.
Food processor – This is such a versatile bit of kit that I use at least 4 times a week. Making soups, pancake/waffle batter, protein balls, crumble toppings etc…
Nutri bullet – Love smoothies? Now you can take them with you with this great little portable blender.
Water bottles – Freskko & muma allow you to infuse your water with tea or fruit and keep the contents hot or cold for hours on end. Other cool bottles include; infruition & swell.
Mason jar – Or any cute jar really. Novelty transparent jars are great for making your smoothies look even more amazing in pictures. To go with this get some “Simply Straws”.
Melon baller – This one is really just for those with a serious addiction to taking pictures of their food. In the summer this can make for some truly beautiful pictures.
Personalised tea spoon – there are a few companies around that will engrave a few words of your choice on some cutlery. Print their name on it. Really cute idea. (The Cutlery Commission)
Whole foods vouchers – Me and a Whole Foods store is a dangerous combination. My wallet trembles with fear at the mere sight of one, but with a gift voucher I am like a kid in a sweet shop.
Loose leaf tea strainer – I rarely by bagged teas these days, partly because I find loose leaf is more flavoursome and secondly because I don’t like that most companies stain the tea bags to make them white and I don’t know what they have used to die them. I use my tea strainer a minimum of 4 times every day.
Spiralizer – They come in varying sizes but for anyone into their courgettie (spiralized courgette) this is a must.
Book them on a raw/vegan/refined sugar free/protein orientated cook course – Not only will they get the opportunity to make some delicious treats and take the recipes home with them but they will meet so many like minded people. It’s always a great way to spend an afternoon.
Banana guard – When you have a banana obsession this is a necessity.
Healthy teas are on trend right now, but it’s not all branding, some really do have some wonderful benefits. Try yerba mate, green tea or a range of mushroom teas like; cordyceps or reishi. Afew brands leading the way are; four sigma foods, positivitea, pukka & rio amazon.
A superfood powder he or she hasn’t tried before – I love nothing more than testing out new superfoods. I have recently tried bee pollen and camu camu, but I am yet to try sea buckthorn, psyllium husk and a few others, hint hint 😉 A good place to start if your present recipient is new to the superfood game is with; matcha green tea, cacao, spirulina or lucuma powders.
Healthy(er) chocolates – Hotel Chocolate Rare & Vintage range, Pana Chocolate, IQ Chocolate, Aloha Chocolate & Ombar are all great options with a little healthy twist.
Hand make them a protein muffin dry mix (my sister gave me this for Christmas last year, it was so sweet. She had obviously thought a lot about it and they tasted fantastic, what a great gift!)
If you plan to go out for a meal on their birthday, take them out to a lunch beforehand as well. Hit up a local, raw/vegan/paleo café or healthy eatery. In London prime examples would be. Tanya’s Chelsea, Wild Food Café, 26 Grains, Daylesford Organics, Ethos Foods etc…
Cook books – Protein Pow’s “The Ultimate Protein Powder Cook Book” & The Muscle Bakery’s “Muscle Baking” cook books.
Selection of protein bars – again like superfoods I absolutely love trying new protein bars, so try and find some quirky or foreign ones. But be careful, if your present recipient is sugar conscious like me don’t buy any with more than 6 or 7 grams of sugar because they will simply refuse to eat it.
Muscle food specialty box or hamper – this is a good one! Particularly around festive periods where the hampers are themed.
Gym Tote Gym Bag – if you a fitness gal that has a gym bag that doesn’t quite live up to her hand bag then this is the present for her. Compartmentalised gym bags that could hold their own in London Fashion Week.
6 pack bag – this isn’t your ordinary gym bag. Yes it’s got compartments for all your kit and devices, but it also has a compartment to store all your meals, shakes and tablets. This compartment is cooled and comes with its own Tupperware. It can also store all your work essentials, laptop, notepad etcetera.
Foam roller – an absolute essential, you have not experienced a day so pleasurable after a leg workout. The ability to walk has returned and the DOMS have vanished. You need one!
Grasp – the world’s first coloured liquid chalk. (You put it on your hands for better grip)
Rip cords – they are elasticated resistance bands that allow you to work out anywhere. I don’t go on holiday without one. I last used mine training chest and shoulders on the back of a yacht in Sweden looking out into the Archipelago islands. It was absolute bliss.
Compression tights – don’t just keep you warm, in fact I would recommend not wearing them during training at all. Wear them after as they have been proven to help muscle recovery post workout. 2 XU are a great place to start.
Fit Bit Surge – it’s a wearable tech device (watch) that displays your; max speed, average speed, heart rate, distance covered and elevation to name but a few, the perfect gift for anyone who loves a good run. Other good options are the Garmin Vivoactive and Misfituk.
Lifting belt – a slightly more serious bit of kit. Dips are one of my favourite exercises so a dipping belt is a great way to take that exercise to a new level. You might want to ask him if he dips first.
Promix vortex shaker – you know that shitty, awful smelling protein shaker you constantly see lying around the kitchen, in fact there are probably a few of them. Well this is an electric version that perfectly mixes your protein shake by creating a vortex like whirl pool inside the bottle to ensure your shake has no lumps! How cool is that.
Muscle recovery bath salts – Epsom salts are great, or Transdermal Technology has just come out with a range. Pour these in your bath and relax like no man should, hell light a few candles you’re already looking pretty feminine you might as well go all out!
TRX cables – if your loved one prefers to work out at home rather than the gym this is an essential. TRX cables allow you to perform a greater variety of body weight exercises and make you look pretty cool whilst doing it.
Trail running shoes – essentially off road trainers, design for dirt tracks and running on grass. They have a deeper tread and light weight deign. Go for Inov 8 they make some really snazzy ones.
If you don’t know what to buy your loved one after reading this blog post ask yourself, do you really know them? Seriously though, you owe me; this is going to get you some major brownie points and a hug tighter than you have ever previously experienced. I sincerely hope that your present makes someone’s day and if it does I would love to hear about it. Just comment below.
